Published poets
Students from Year 9 spent the autumn and summer terms honing their poetry and spoken word skills with spoken word artists from the Roundhouse, which has now culminated in the publication of an anthology of their works.
Using a range of techniques to engage, inspire and create, Leo Boix and Kat Francois - spoken word artist-educators - worked with two cohorts of students to release the students' poetic talents. The students were also supported by Roundhouse Youth Support Worker, Victoria Vickers.
The poems can be seen in a newly-published anthology, beautifully designed by Emily Kerr with photography by Emily Pinney. Titled Dark New Skies, the poems are inspired by climate change and migration. The student poets are Aarif, Abdallah, Adeeya, Akram, Aya, Amran, Mahi, Maya, Mohamed C, Nadia, Nafeez, Rayhan, Saffy, Samir, Sanaria, Shanjidah, Sylwia, Tahia, Zara and Zahrah.
This project was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Roundhouse and the time and commitment invested by their Education Programme Manager, Lucy Nicholls. We are also grateful to Labtech for their support of this initiative.
